Feel invigorated in a natural wonderland

If it’s nature and adventure you seek, the Scenic Rim is the launching pad for all kinds of outdoor activities; from bushwalking to rock climbing, chasing waterfalls to waterskiing. Our inspirational natural landscape of world heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests, national parks, soaring mountain ranges and expansive lakes invite exploration.

The Scenic Rim is home to six national parks and a great way to see it all is on foot. To the east, the popular Tamborine National Park and Lamington National Park provide access to magnificent high-altitude, moss-covered, sub-tropical rainforests. To the south, Mount Chinghee National Park and to the west, the Mount Barney and Main Range National Parks offer a more tranquil, rugged and rural setting. There are walking trails for all abilities, with great local guides to lead you on well-marked tracks or challenging climbs. Surrounded by mountains, the Scenic Rim is a natural rock climbing hub with popular destinations including Frog Buttress in Moogerah Peaks National Park.

Within the Scenic Rim, immersion in the region’s Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area is an unmissable experience so close to Brisbane and the Gold Coast, where you can wander the ancient sub-tropical forests of Lamington, Mount Barney, Mount Chinghee and Main Range national parks.

Be entranced by the spectacular waterfalls at Lamington National Park and Tamborine National Park

Wildlife and wilderness at every turn

The Scenic Rim’s national parks are a haven for local flora and fauna amid lush rainforest, rugged mountains, cascading waterfalls and untouched terrain. Bushwalkers will be rewarded with glimpses of rare species of birds, mammals and plants among the rainforest canopy, while enjoying the scenic beauty and stunning views on popular walks.

There are so many ways to get back to nature in the Scenic Rim. Wander to stunning waterfalls in Lamington and Tamborine National Parks or swim in serene swimming holes such as The Gorge, Lower Portals and Burgess Park.

Look up to see some of our most recognisable and accessible peaks such as Mt French, Mt Maroon, Mt Cordeaux, Mt Edwards, Mt Barney, Tamborine Mountain and the Lamington Plateau framing the Scenic Rim.

The area’s two large lakes at Moogerah and Maroon are popular destinations for lovers of water sports and fishing, while Lake Wyaralong offers a more peaceful experience.

Keen anglers can cast a line at all lakes, which are brimming with freshwater fish. Powered watercraft are allowed at Moogerah and Maroon, both ideal spots for waterskiing and jet skis, while Lake Wyaralong is perfect for kayaking and canoeing to explore the surrounds.
