MumboGumbo – The Harmonic Fusion of Kirk Lorange, Greg Lyon, and Aaron West

Slide guitarist Kirk Lorange arrived in Australia from Canada in 1975 and settled in Sydney. He toured and recorded with Richard Clapton, Swanee, Glen Shorrock, Marc Hunter, Kevin Johnson and many more. His own band, Chasin The Train, formed in 1985 and is still performing in Sydney. He became one of Sydney’s busier session musicians in the 1980s/90s, contributing to scores of albums, hundreds of TV/radio jingles and several movie scores. He released his own album of original tunes – No Apostrophe – in the mid-80s. He moved to Tamborine Mountain almost 30 years ago and continues to play and teach.

Bassist Greg Lyon has been around as long as Kirk and both have been playing together in various lineups over the years. He moved to Byron Bay from Sydney during the 80s and taught bass and composition at Lismore’s Southern Cross University. He was a founding member of the pioneering jazz/fusion group Crossfire and has worked with many top local and international acts including – Jon Cleary, Rodriguez, Georgie Fame, Renee Geyer and Doug Parkinson. He released his own album “Out Of The Blue” in 2022.

Aaron West is a consummate musician. He is fluent on the guitar, drums, bass and vocals. He hails from the Gold Coast and traveled across the US to New Orleans where he recorded an album “504 Soul”. Aaron is also an in-demand studio musician.

Kirk Lorange, Greg Lyon, and Aaron West represent the epitome of musical excellence, each bringing their unique talents and experiences to the table. Together, they form a dynamic trio that continues to enthrall audiences with their soulful, genre-defying performances, reaffirming their status as icons of the Australian music scene.
